With the help of Design Studies students and Madison community knitters, the Design Gallery sponsored a "yarn bombing" at a bus shelter at the intersection of State and Johnson Streets.
After three weeks of knitting, the installation began to take shape on September 29th and was completed on September 30th to coincide with the citywide Gallery Night event organized by the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art.
The Design Gallery also sponsored a "DIY Forum" on September 30th at 5:30-7:00 at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. The evening was facilitated by Jenny Angus and featured panelists Jeffrey Bleem, Lisa Whiting and Beverly Gordon.
When the "Cozy Shelter" was dismantled over 120 brightly colored scarves were given away to the Children's Service Society of Wisconsin, the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County and "Women in Transition", an organization for women with persistent mental illness.
The installation was funded by the Anonymous Fund, a Brittingham grant and a Blink grant from the City of Madison.
